Anabels' News

Another Summer gone and all the pre trainers have gone back to Philip Hobbs, Gordon Elliot etc. All looking super including Diamond King, Menorah, Sausalito Sunrise and Garde La Victoire - so lots to look forward to over the coming months, not least my trip to Ireland where we have 2 runners at Laytown today (North of Dublin) and the races are run on the beach. It is the only race meeting of this kind held anywhere in the World. The prize money is good and we have a good support team coming along !! Watch this space !!

A new flock of sheep arrived recently to keep me amused - Oxford Downs - a rare breed of which I am looking forward to breeding from.

Friday, 15th July 2016

Having had a quiet 6 weeks which I am sure is down to the rape seed oil that is growing close by, we came back with a convincing win at Leicester with Generalyse yesterday !! His third course/distance win. Let's hope this is a good sign of things to come for the remainder of the summer flat season.

As always, we are delighted to have stable visits so if the sun is shining and you are wondering what to do, please call us and spend a couple of hours at Moor Farm.

Thursday, 31st March 2016

A good start to the new flat season ! A winner and a 2nd (beaten in a photo !)

Fun money, fun summer and fun horse, Eland Ally, won last week and £750 would buy a 1/4 share ! Will run again very soon.

Two run tomorrow and I hope both have chances - Bush Warrior and Generalyse.

Lambing is nearly finished, the sun is out and the grass is at long last growing. Roll on the summer !!

Friday, 4th March 2016

After an illustrious NH Racing Career and having earned £430K, Captain Chris has left us today to embark on the new chapter of his life and he will be hunting in the West Country next season after a summer out at grass. He has been a marvellous horse for all his connections and we wish him the very best of luck in he retirement ! He will be sorely missed at Moor Farm having spent the summer here for the last 9 years.heart

The Ridgeway Racing Club has been having a good few weeks and this year alone has had 1 win and 3 x 2nds !!! We could liven things up a bit with a couple of more members !! We have a new horse in the syndicate to replace Indian Scout who has now been retired to a happy home and we will post details about him very soon - watch this space. Contact me if you are interested, very welcome to come and have a look around and it is very affordable for a lot of fun.

All The Kings Horses have also enjoyed a recent win with Rigolleto winning at Lingfield 2 weeks ago.

Lambs are due any day now, and I announce the birth of my first foal out of my mare Hilden this week. A lovely filly who is part owned by one of my owners Roger Outhwaite.

Todd has also been running well and he is out again tomorrow at Lingfield so fingers crossed.

Not long until Cheltenham !

Tuesday, 2nd February 2016

An exciting week ahead ! Kakapuka left Wilmcote yesterday for the start of his journey to race in St Moritz on the snow covered lake ! His first race is on Friday evening at 6.30pm and he may well run again on the Sunday. It is a 3 week racing carnival over there and several English jockeys fly over for the 'craic' !! We are using a German jockey called Vinzenz Schiergen as he is experienced in this kind of adverse racing and can also do the weight (56k). There is prize money down to 6th place and there are only 6 runners on Friday and we get a travel allowance. Aiden and I are going over with a party put together by Chris Coley. We will keep you updated.

In the meatime my string of 2nds continues with both Todd and Indian Scout running well but 2nds again.

Tuesday, 22nd December 2015

The MIGHTY MOUSE did it agin !! Win number 10 in virtually unraceable conditions ! He is a legend ! Our new horse Eland Ally ran a very good race first time out for us at Wolverhampton finishing 2nd at 33/1. He is for sale to stay in the yard for small money if you are still looking to buy anyone a Christmas present, shares or as a whole !

Kings Road goes to Market Rasen on Boxing Day to see if he can win the handicap hurdle for the 3rd year running !!

A happy Christmas to all and our yard is always open if anyone would like to visit - call us first - for a mulled wine and a mince pie.

Tuesday, 15th December 2015

A great day at Lingfield on Saturday with the wonderful 'Dormouse' winning for the 9th time. He has a new silent owner now called Chris Such who won him in a raffle at Warwick Racecourse for a year - good story !! He is coming down again on Thursday to receive his trophy, champagne and video and to be photographed by the local press ! Mouse loves that !

Better luck hopefully for my sprinters this week, we have gone very close for a while now and endured some very bad draws. Lingfield and Kempton here we come.

We have had the 3 warriors - namely Captain Chris, Menorah and Wishfull Thinking - back here for their mid winter break. A joy to have such wonderful old gentlemen here.

A very merry Christmas to all. A share in Ridgeway Racing Club or All The Kings Horses sound like a good Christmas present if you are feeling generous to your family or friends.

Cheers ! Anabel

Thursday, 11th June 2015

The start of our flat season has got off to a good but frustrating start with both Kakapuka and Todd being beaten 'noses'. Those 'noses' cost us about £6K !!

Brighton is our next port of call - a real horses for courses course. We have had quite a lot of success there and go on a regular basis - the shops/restaurants/The Grand/seaside etc may have something to do with it !

Ridgeway Racing Club seems to be going from strength to strength and has an exciting new horse sourced by Aiden !! Gentle Mel - who is a point to point winning mare from Ireland and also ran promisingly in her bumper. New members are always welcome and we will soon be holding our yard visit.

Hoping that you all have a good summer and that the sun starts shining soon !

Tuesday, May 19th 2015

We had an up and down week last week, one super bumper winner - Captain Bocelli whom I train for Diana Whateley (Captain Chris, Menorah, Wishfull Thinking etc) which gave me a great pleasure - especially as we all had a bit at 40-1 !! A very nice horse for the future, although he is very fragile. And then 2 disappointing starts on both the flat and over hurdles but that is the nature of the beast !!

I met an interesting amateur photographer at Market Rasen and have posted a couple of very good shots that he took - hope you all agree that he appears talented at his part time job ! His name is Lee and we can pass on his details if anyone would like them.

Kings Road with Yas Kings Road With Anabel, Tom Scu &Yas

Aiden is at Doncaster Sales this week before joining me in Liverpool for a night away, a beatles tour, and the musical Barnham follwed by a good meal with our good friends, Simon and Lucy Sherwood, to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary !! Wow !

Friday May 8th

The start of a new flat & NH Season and I was delighted with our results last season. We finished in the prize money table a very respectable 173rd/550 trainers. Not bad for only running 6 horses !!! Onwards and upwards.

We start our flat campaign tomorrow ground/weather permitting at Brighton with Kakapuka, who has slipped to a very attractive mark. One of his owners, Terry Hilliam, who has been with me for 20 years, has now retired from the Post Office so I hope we will see him at lots more meetings now. He is the proud owner of horses that have won him over 30 races with me - not bad for a postie!!

Wednesday March 18th

We all had a great week at Cheltenham - 8 Irish relations/friends stayed here with us - exhausting but fun !! Luckily my liver seems to have held up and the alcohol consumption is now far less that the last 7 days !!

Aiden had a winner in The Druids Nephew (which he bought at Doncaster Sales) and Olly was involved in a winner - Cause of Causes and placed horses via Gordon Elliott.

Our horses continue to run well - special thanks must go to Dormouse who has run 11 times this season, winning 2 and being placed 9 times. He is 10 years old now and has given us all so much pleasure (see photo's) He has now won us 8 races and been placed 36 times.

See the photo of feeding time with my Great Nephew (lamb called Teagan) The mother had triplets and this one needs a helping hand ! Roll on the spring, we are all fed up with these cold, damp days, no grass growth and wet fields.

Wednesday January 14th 2015

We had another super winner yesterday with Todd at Fakenham ridden by one of my favourite jockeys, Tom Scudamore. Scu rode me our our first winner together in 2000 aboard Open Arms at Beverley when he was an amateur and he beat no other that a certain Mr Ryan Moore by a neck ! We also joined up to win the jump jockeys Derby at Epsom and that day he was abaord Great View. Great memories.

Joanna Mason has the leg up again for us tomorrow at Market Rasen aboard Dormouse. He has a welter weight and her 7lb claim will be very valuable. Jo knows her way around Market Rasen as she has already ridden 2 winners there aboard Kings Road, the latest being on Boxing Day. She is now in 2nd place in the All Weather championship, 3 points behind Simon Walker as she rode a good winner last week at Kempton for her grandfather, no other than the great Mick Easterby !

It is that time of year again - lambing commences very soon here and having scanned the 10 ewes we have, we expect 24 lambs.

Sadly we have Captain Chris back home with us as he suffered an injury prior to his first run of the season and so he will not be seen until next Autumn on the track.

A mid winter break begins this weekend as we are off to Paris with Simon and Lucy Sherwood. A booking at the Moulin Rouge on Saturday night is highly anticipated. Hopefully Paris will still be highly policed and we will all have a safe but fun weekend after all last weeks events in the city.

Friday December 5th 2014

What a SUPER week we have had !!!!! 3 Winners !!!

Dormouse under a huge weight in bottomless ground at Lingfield, followed by Indian Scout making all over 1 mile 5 furlongs at Wolverhampton, followed by Crouching Harry winning over 2 miles at Lingfield - the latter two having been given great rides by Joanna Mason. We would love her to win the A/W Amateur Championship !

I am off to Ireland on Monday for my annual Christmas visit to see my Irish relations and so I will miss Dormouse running at Uttoxeter. If he goes A.P will ride and Aiden will represent me as he owns him.

I would still love another couple of members for Ridgeway Racing Club (Walter De La Mare, Indian Scout & Crouching Harry). What a nice Christmas present it would make - £500 all inclusive for 12 months !

Wednesday 26th November 2014

There were no mouse traps or cats around at 1.30 at Lingfield yesterday ! The mighty Dormouse makes it 8 over hurdles with the burdening weight of 11st 12lbs (giving 29 lbs to the 2nd)

What a true trojan he is ! Thank god no one wanted him - we surely did. Small ears, round eyes, plump tummy and covered in velvet - all the reasons no none wanted him - hence the name Dormouse !

Could do with a yard full of mice. Good hunter too - see photo of last Saturday, See Racing Post page 14 "what they said"

Wednesday 15th October 2014

The start of winter - dark mornings and dark nights !

Captain Chris returned to Philip Hobbs yesterday having spent the last 7 months with us. He looked tremendous and a crack at the King George is on the cards.

Our last trip to Brighton tomorrow for the season with Indian Scout, who should improve for his last run and could be in with a shout.

A dozen yearlings are going through the ring at Newmarket Sales this week from Warren Chase Stud and so far they have sold well. A fascinating day out and well worth a visit, with buyers from all over the world.

Our next NH runner will be at Stratford next Saturday - Kings Road in the ladies race and to be ridden by Joanna Mason so an exciting week ahead.

Monday 1st September 2014

The newly formed Ridgeway Racing Club had a day to remember last Friday when A.P. (The Champ) McCoy rode them their first winner at Bangor On Dee aboard Walter De La Mare. I think there will be a lot of photo's on a lot of mantle pieces to remember the no 1 win by ! (see our pic)

My lambs sold well on Saturday at Worcester market and great weather and a bar-b-q by the lake resulted in a super week end.

We have a quiet week this week but I will be at Doncaster Sales. Oliver is also over for the sales which coincides with his birthday ! so I must try and find a decent restaurant near by.

Friday 15th August 2014

A mass exodus of the good horses that I keep for the Summer and do 6 weeks prep work with left this week, namely Menorah Wishfull Thinking, Miles To Memphis (top bumper horse) & Sausalito Sunrise to name but a few. They will be replaced by young stock owned by Grahame & Diana Whateley, who are also kindly leaving The Real Milan here to Hunter Chase, along with a couple of bumper horses.

Several of the flat horses are having a mid summer break as they also spend the winter on the All Weather.

Tomorrow is very exciting - Wilmcote Flower Show !! My entries are numerous so fingers crossed for success ! Aiden and I go to Connemara on Sunday - a trip I bought at a silent auction (that I am addicted to, along with my son) at the J T McNamara Raceday at Limerick. Hopefully the money will help him along.

A.P. rode Walter De La Mare last night for me at Fontwell - he assures me he will win a race - you have to believe "the king" so here's hoping to a first success for my recently launched club - Ridgeway Racing Club

Enjoy the rest of the summer.

Monday 7th July 2014

A great week at the office !!!! 2 winners - Crouching Harry on the flat at Chepstow (for sale !) and Kings Road at Market Rasen ridden by Olly's girlfriend Jo Mason with great panache.

Jo only just made it in time as our flight from Mallorca was delayed for an hour and the passport control queue was about a mile long. Olly then collected her and legged it there only to be stopped by the police for speeding !! The fine was paid for by courtesy of William Hill. Photo of winning trainer and jockey to be added shortly.

We just missed out on a treble as Rigoletto was beaten in a photo finish at Warwick on Friday (a couple of shares available).

Long may the horses remain happy and healthy

Tuesday 10th June 2014

Aiden & I have had a good 6 day break in Majorca with Allen & Boni Webb - "Webby" is now a master saddler and Boni runs two very smart dress shops in Stow On The Wold (well worth a visit) Webby rode me plenty of winners in the 80's including Queensway Boy (who he also rode in the Grand National) and Fingest but to name a few. We met up with Graham Roach who Webby had not seen for years since partnering Prideaux Boy to win at both the Cheltenham and Aintree festivals, whom Graham both owned and trained himself.

The horses are running well without a win at the moment from sprinters to hurdlers. Andy James was at hand to lead Walter De La Mare into the enclosure at Bath having ran a great race to finish 2nd at 20-1. He is an avid member and follower of the Ridgeway Racing Club and hardly misses a meeting ! See photo.

A winner around the corner I hope

Tuesday 6th May 2014

What a legend !! Dormourse wins his 7th race at Bangor with Sam Twiston Davies aboard.

Mouse is a huge favourite in and out of the yard and received many texts !

A few of out flatties are having a 2 week break at present as they ran all last Summer/Autumn and Winter with great credit. They will be back on the track mid June.

Foaling has almost finished - 45 down and 4 to go. The mares and foals are a beautiful sight in the road side fields and so many people stop their cars to have a look - including me !

Saturday 8th March 2014

Happy Birthday Anabel - Have a lovely day in Mallorca

From all the Staff, Horses, Raffa & Po xx

Monday 3rd March 2014

Having won the ladies Hunting Horn blowing competition at the Ledbury Hunt Ball on Saturday Night !!! It would be good to think that we may be lucky enough to have a winner today at one of the three meetings we have runners at !

Volito and Autopilot are at Lingfield where I will be going, Walter De La Mare & AP at Southwell with Aiden, and Little Choosey at Kempton.

A short rest beckons tomorrow as Aiden & I plus Simon & Lucy Sherwood fly over to Majorca for my birthday. Good food, good wine and HOPEFULLY more to celebrate than my birthday !

Monday 24th February 2014

WHOAH - OH - good ole Volito - what a star ! 6lbs penalty and a GREAT ride from George Baker. Can he win again ??? Wait and see how he is over the next few days. He is next to the lambing shed and so is in 24 hour daylight !! Maybe that helps ??!!

Little Choosey ran a very encouraging race and a win is not too far away. Walter De La Mare ran well at Warwick, the ground was not too good for him and he gave the winner over a stone and not much less to the 2nd. It was touch and go whether or not I would see him run as upon my arrival at Warwick I got stuck in the lift !!!! With Aiden running up and down trying to find someone to assist - I thought it would be useful to press the emergency button. This was greeted by a foreign person asking me "which country are you in please"- you can imagine the rest. Eventually, after 20 minutes, I was winched to safety. Onwards and upwards.

Thursday 20th February 2014

The Yard was delighted to cheer Volito home at Lingfield yesterday after 9 near misses this season !! His young Jockey Jack Garrity (son of Russ) gave him a polished and well judged ride. Volito will go back to Lingfield on Friday to attempt to win again under a 6lbs penalty ! We are very lucky to have such good fun horses as Volito, Kakapuka and Rigoletto to name but a few. Please remember shares are always available - £450 to £1,500 - TAKE NOTE !!!!

Wednesday 5th February 2014

A profitable weekend all round ! George Baker gave Kakapuka a great front running ride to win for us at Kempton - yet again Volito finished 2nd ! 9 of his last 12 runs have either been 2nd or 3rd. We will get there ! I have 2 or 3 shares remaining in the All The Kings Horses Syndicate, which owns Rigoletto and 50% of Kakapuka. Contact the office for details if you are interested.

The first lambs were born on Sunday - strapping twins. Here is to a successful lambing season.

Aiden & I went to Co Meath to visit son Olly, who is the new assistant to Gordon Elliott. We were very impressed with the yard, Olly's digs and the local restaurants. A good time had by all.

3 or 4 likely runners this weekend both on the flat and over jumps - weather permitting. More prize money for the yard would go down well ! Probably our best bets would be Rigoletto and Dormouse, but all 4 runners should give a good account and have e/w claims. Brollies and Raincoats seem to look the best attire for the rest of the week !!

Thursday, 23rd January 2014

Having had a wonderful week in Barbados, it was great to be welcomed home with a winner via Rigoletto - he has been so consistent and has hardly been out of the first 3 ! A lovely fun horse for All The Kings Horses Syndicate.

We have 2 runners today - Walter De La Mare at Fakenham hoping he can carry on in a winning vein, and Volito - another ultra consistent sprinter who runs at Kempton, and is over due a win.

Dread the forecast for this weekend ! Dire ! Roll on the spring.

Anabel on the look out for new owners !!

She stops at nothing ??!!

Tuesday 7th January 2014

A very happy new year to you. A good Christmas was had by all - rounding off with Walter De La Mare winning at Market Rasen on Boxing day, with a bit up his sleeve. We had quite a few entries this week only for so much to be abandoned.

We sadly had to wave goodbye to our 4 horse box today to a new home in the West Country ! New EU regulations are going to be impossible for drivers in 2014, with more dont that do's and so we will probably replace her with another 2 horse box.

Lambing will start in about 3 weeks - always an exciting time at Moor Farm.

Olly made it back for an extended break over Christmas due to cancelled ferry crossings. He drove over with Gordon Elliotts King George runner who ran well to finish 4th and was unable to sail back until 28th Dec ! So we all had lots of time together !!

Rigoletto will hopefully help pay for my air fare to Barbados on Wednesday (in the 3.10 at Lingfield) where we will be joining Paul & Georgie Nicholls, and John & Pat Hales.

Photo - Aiden and Po in front of the racing on Boxing Day !!

A merry Christmas to you all and a prosperous new year !

Thursday, 19th December 2013

We will have a couple of runners on Boxing Day - Dormouse will run at Market Rasen along with Walter De La Mare. On the 28th we have a point to point runner at Chaddesley Corbett and Will Telfer, who rides out here, will ride him. We will have high hopes and want to keep our 100% record in tact, that all pointers who have run for me over the last 5 years have won !!

The winds and rain we had last night were the worst I ever remember, bringing trees down, localised flooding (including 2 rooms in the house). Have not seen the gallops yet but hopefully they have survived.

A very kind invitation from John & Pat Hales (Neptune Collonges) to join them on holiday in Barbados, along with Paul & Georgie Nicholls, means we will be out of the country for 10 days in January - cannot wait.Fingers crossed for a winner soon and hope everyone has a wonderful festive holiday !!

Friday 29th November 2013

We have recently taken charge of two Irish horses - Crouching Harry (for Sale !!) and Indian Scout, due to a lack of opportuntities in Ireland. Both are middle distance flat performers who mix the flat with hurdling. We will have a busy A/W season with 6 -8 horses to run. Rigoletto, Volito and Kakapuka look nailed on to bring back some pre Christmas prize money.

My ewes also had their pre Christmas scan and all are carrying twins or triplets - this all starts early February.

We run Rally The Troops in a point to point on Sunday in the West Country - very exciting. We have worked very very hard to get his confidence back and fingers crossed for a huge run. Alan Peterson has been very patient with him, and us ! Hopefully we will be rewarded.

Shares in All The Kings Horses (Rigoletto & Kakapuka)  and Ridgeway Racing Club (Little Choosey & Kauto The Roc) still available.

Tuesday 30th October 2013

A bad start to the week - sadly there were several designer mens shirts (Aiden's & Olly's) that went into the wash and came out several different colours thanks to my red marbled lipstick that went in there with them !!

On a more serious note, we are eagerly awaiting the A/W flat season for some of the horses who seem in rude health and just can't quite cope with this heavy flat ground at the end of the season.

Fingal Bay returns to Philip Hobbs next week and we were also delighted to watch 2 former inmates win at Aintree - Garde La Victoire & Royal Regatta - both broken here and sold by Aiden. Olly was also home for Gordon Elliott who had a winner on the same card.

We have the AGM this Sunday for All The Kings Horses Syndicate who now have a share in Kakapuka, and The Ridgeway Racing Club can look forward to their 1st National Hunt runner with Kauto The Roc, possibly going to either Towcester or Southwell early November.

Wednesday 9th October 2013

Our new club - Ridgeway Racing Club - will have its first runner on Friday night at Wolverhampton with Little Choosey. The club is now up to 15 paid up members and all will be given a red, white and blue tie so that I can recognise them !! We have a new sponsor called 'Service Master' for the Club so many thanks to them.

We also have a new sponsor for All The Kings Horses, a local beauty salon called V.I.P and again many thanks to them. A fun and inexpensive way to advertise.

Volito managed to finish 2nd AGAIN yesterday at Brighton - he always manages to find one too good !

Monday 30th September 2013

The horses continue to run well and another winner duly came our way on Saturday with Little Choosey. To date our small string of flat horses have yielded 3 winners, 7 seconds and 7 thirds ! I see no reason why by the end of the season they won't all have won which would be a good feat !

We are qualifying Rally The Troops for point to pointing at the moment in an attempt to build his confidence and he had a good morning on the hunting field on Saturday ridden by Yas - see photo. Glorious Autumn weather is being enjoyed by horses, staff etc in preparation for the winter.

Little Choosey is joining our new Ridgeway Racing Club, which is a great addition for members - membership is filling up and still growing. I look forward to meeting everyone when we have our first runner which should hopefully be in about 10 days.

Tuesday 17th September 2013

The horses are still running well and long may it last ! The odd one that has run disappointingly has had valid excuses e.g. ground, course etc.

We claimed an exciting 2 year old from Leicester last week called Autopilot (known in the yard as A.P !!) who bolted up in the seller from Brian Meehans yard. He is small but perfect - just like a diamond. We will run him again and probably have him gelded in the close season. Anyone interested ??

Pre winter break in Majorca did Aiden and I good and feel our batteries are re charged. Olly is now in Ireland with Gordon Elliott - will miss him like mad - but he has a great job over there and it will be an excuse for a stable visit (plus a Christmas shopping spree in Dublin)

Ridgeway Racing Club is now up and running and the colours have been chosen. Kauto The Roc should be on the track within 4 - 6 weeks. Shares are selling well and really hope it will be a good fun club, may even introduce a new flat filly called Little Choosey for a mere £100 extra for an all inclusive year !!

Monday 2nd September

Touch wood the horses are running really well - it was great to see Rigoletto get his head in front at Warwick. We had a fab 'syndicate picnic' in the car park both before and after racing !

We have had loads of 2nds - Himrayn twice, Volito, Rigoletto, but to name a few !

Olly's syndicate, Ridgeway Racing Club is going well - shares are selling weekly now so onwards and upwards. We must choose the racing colours.

The Zwartble sale at Worcester went well for us and all the lambs sold for good prices, so Sam The Ram is about to go back in with his wives for next years February lambing.

We have runners at Bath on Wednesday (Olly's Birthday) so I hope we can reward our boxdriver/assistant/rep etc etc with a winner.

Is there no end to Anabels' talents?

Well done!

Thursday, 22nd August 2013

A very busy week with runners North, South, East & West - but quite a good week with all my flat runners being placed either 2nd or 3rd. Rigoletto was beaten on the line by about 1/2 inch and surely he is nailed on to win ! Frustrating but at least they are bringing prize money home. Himrayn goes to Newton Abbot this evening and he is long overdue a success.

Ollys new racing syndicate is attracting interest - see link Ridgeway Racing Club - and Kauto The Roc is back in now from a short holiday at grass.

I was very sad last weekend as I spent most of Saturday morning doing a flower arrangement in a thimble for the local village show - see picture. All was not in vain as it won, along with my roses and herbs ! Hey Ho

Monday 12th August 2013

A frustrating week last week with Rigoletto looking sure to win at Carlisle inside the final furlong, only to be touched off.

Volito also ran a fine race at Brighton being also just beaten. He would have bolted in if he hadn't missed the break by 5 lengths !

A mass exodus of horses left today for Philip Hobbs at Minehead including Captain Chris, Menorah & Wishfull Thinking. I felt very proud waving them off as they looked fabulous. Here is to a very successful season for them. See photographs.

Three nice 'Bumper' Horses

Pit Stop for Wishfull Thinking

29th July 2013

Having had a lean time recently with the horses all running well but without a winner for a while, we managed to break the losing run at Epsom on Thursday with Kakapuka. It is the most fabulous course in all ways, with Group 1 facilities, views, ground etc and best of all the hollowed circular winners enclosure - a joy to go in to !

We are very busy here now with all the 'Whateley' horses back in and all looking well summered.

Olly is in the process of setting up a new Racing Club, which I am helping him to promote.

Ridgeway Racing Club

27th June 2013

Unlucky with Kakapuka at Warwick - just touched off again ! Himrayn ran an absolute stormer at Newton Abbot. He was stabled and in plaster for 15 weeks last year and things looked pretty hopeless for him with such a nasty injury. All in the past now and nothing would give me more pleasure than to greet him in the winners enclosure again.

Our Warren Chase Stud owners day went very well and it was a pleasure to welcome Jilly Cooper - I think we may be mentioned in her next book as her note book was very full at the end of the day !!

10 horses came in this week for pre-training including Captain Chris, Menorah and Wishfull Thinking, along with top class bumper winner Diamond King. All summered well and look great.

Aiden is away at the Derby Sales at Tattersalls Ireland this week - one of his busiest sales weeks of the year.

13th June 2013

A mixed week with our runners. Dormouse finished 4th again - he seems handicapped to the hilt at the moment and is paying for his consistency. Rigoletto also finished 4th and is coming to hand - will definately be winning soon (unfortunately Lingfield at 8.30pm is not my favourite time in the rain !)

Our Stud open day for owners and investors is tomorrow. I am looking forward to meeting a lot of new faces that the Stud Manager, Charlie Oakshott, has brought with him.

All sheep now sheared and the 1st hen has gone broody - a sure sign that summer is on the way ! Aiden busy at Goffs sales this week and Oliver is busy with his transport.

30th May 2013

Weather against us all again - ground changing very quickly ! Not quick enough to have allowed me two winners though ! Dormouse was beaten in the shadow of the post at Fontwell - the ground was just too quick for him. Same applied to Watsabillion - he was given a great ride in the Ladies race at Newton Abbott by Jo Mason and was in the lead two strides after the post (wrong side though) having been outpaced going to the second last.

We have two today at Lingfield and we will not be able to criticise the ground for Kakapuka as he is on the All Weather. Fingers crossed for Kings Road and hope a few of his opponents won't be as effective on the soft.

It was great to see The Tother One easily winning his point to point last week with Olly on board and he may well run again this weekend along with Boychuk.

A word of warning for everyone ! Don't go near a deer with a fawn at foot. Anne Oakshott & son Patrick (wife and son of Stud Manager Charlie) got chased for 15 minutes by the mother with its teeth bared and hissing. An awful experience and one they will not forget in a hurry !!

2nd May 2013

How can I possibly be praying for rain after the winter we have just had ?? The grass is so slow coming through, gallops dry, and I am watering my flower pots !

First 2 runners of the flat season were pleasing - Kakapuka was just touched off in the shadow of the post and Volito was beaten under 3 lengths after having the best part of a year off. Dormouse goes to Fontwell tomorrow - he is such a joy - he goes on any ground, left or right handed, 2-2.5 miles. The best of luck to him.

The stud is looking wonderful in the sunshine and 90% have now foaled. The stud manager, Charlie Oakshott, is about to move into a log cabin and it will be great to have him on site. They are the most amazing homes - must be seen to be believed - cannot wait for it to arrive ! Picture of 'PO' enjoying the first sunshine of 2013 !

18th April 2013

A busy and interesting week ahead starting at Fontwell tomorrow. Dormouse up in trip and ridden by next door neighbour Ryan Mahon as is Whatsabillion - both horses in good form but handicapped up to very best.

Rigoletto goes for his first taste of the Wolverhampton sand in the amateur riders race. Good lady jockey and an Easterby grand daughter - Joanna Mason rides. He is much sharper for his come back run.

On Sunday Ryan Mahon again takes the leg up, this time on Kings Road who has run in 2 sellers this season and is worth a step up in class, so all in all an interesting weekend coming up.

Nothing can be more interesting than last nights entertainment - see photo - Yas heard a commotion in the hen house ! Somehow after jumping out of his bedroom window, he managed to get the chickens out and lock Charlie in. The whole yard was woken up and Olly also arrived back in his lorry from Cheltenham sales with mobile phone at hand to take the famous photo !! All this happened between 1 & 2am - at least all the chickens survived . . . . . . . .

2nd April 2013

We had a good Easter weekend - Boychuk won easily at our local point to point at Upton. It is great to see an old horse win easily and the trophy took quite a lot of lifting ! The Tother One finished 2nd and looks as if his turn may be soon - another old boy that would love to be back in the winners enclosure.

Monday saw Kings Road winning easily at Huntingdon and we may well now drop the 'selling' handicap out of the equation and see how he gets on. He is still for sale !! (for well under 5 figures).

We have had a farm photographer, Mark Gemmell, up here recently - very talented with the unusual.

Our Martin Collins circuit has been invaluable during this awful winter and has not missed a day - including being used by visiting trainers and yards for cantering and schooling over fences and hurdles. Available to rent - contact the office for details.

Our local point to point, Croome & WW, has passed its inspection so probably our only jump runners will be there - The Tother One and Boychuk. Warwick on Monday may see us have our first flat runner. Owned by All The Kings Horses, Rigoletto relishes the soft ground but will improve for the run.

The start of a new week after the stamina sapping week at Cheltenham!

Wishfull Thinking was our best runner finishing 3rd.

The rain keeps coming and you can be very tempted to run horses on bad ground because they have not run for ages. So many decisions to be made and patience is badly needed ! We have finished lambing but all are still barned due to the wet fields, and we are half way through foaling at Warren Chase Stud and the same applies to most of the mares and foals - very frustrating all round.

Taking on a second career making pallet furniture - called Posh Pallets - see picture ! Contact me for details.

5th March 2013

What a difference the sun makes ! My horses are in need of it as is the farm and the lambs. Yesterdays runners were a mixed bag - Cap Falco bled again, which now means a hunting home awaits. A great looking horse, good mover and jumper. Life Long would have finished 3rd if he hadn't all but fallen 2 out. He definately wants a minimum of 3 miles and possibly better ground.

Walter De La Mare tackles 1 1/4 miles at Wolverhampton on Thursday evening with Luke Morris on board - fingers crossed.

Looking forward to Cheltenham next week especially Wishfull Thinking, Captain Chris & Menorah who spend their summers here at Moor Farm. An amazing win on 19th Feb for Diamond King at Weatherby - another Moor Farm student prior to joining Donald McCain - he looks an extra special star in the making.

18th February 2013

We have Storm Shadow in at Ascot Sales tomorrow. A real good looking gent who would make a great hunter, pointer or eventer. A good ride and I hope he finds a good home, could not recommend him more. No more foals born this weekend but had more lambs. Ascot on Saturday was a roller coaster with Real Milan pulling up early and Captain Chris throwing away all chances at the 2nd last ! We have Walter De La Mare at Huntingdon on Thursday and have interesting entries for Towcester on Sunday for Kings Road and Watsabillion.

8th February 2013

I am pleased with the condition of the horses in my small flat string - Rigoletto, en ex inmate of Mick Channons, has wintered well and will have a spin on the A/W before a spring campaign. The same also applies to Kakapuka who goes into this season well handicapped. Volito looks very well and strong this year and he is available for free lease or shares this season ?? Kings Road will campaign on the A/W, the turf and over hurdles, as will Walter De La Mare whose first run on the A/W was very promising. Any interested parties in Volito can contact me via email or my office. Here's to a fun and successful up and coming flat season !! Tomorrow we have Dormouse at Warwick - a course he seems to have a love affair with and I do hope he continues to.

4th February 2013

Aiden & I are back from our short break in Majorca and feeling very refreshed. The weather there was as extra ordinary as it has been here. We were able to sunbathe by the pool from 10am onwards ! Today is our first runner back from the snowy weather and also slightly under the weather horses - so fingers crossed for a good run from Walter De La Mare, who is having his first run on the A/W at Wolverhampton. He is owned by a syndicate from Leicester City football club.

21st January 2013

Another heavy fall of snow last night and the early morning temperature of -4 had us all scratching our heads as to what to do with the horses ! The staff swept and shovelled all the snow off our Martin Collins all weather circuit and Greg power harrowed it and HEY PRESTO we had a wonderful surface on which to exercise all the horses ! We did not miss a day last week but this morning did look decidedly dodgy. Many thanks to all who helped.

The horses were possibly under the weather last week and are on a few tonics to buck them up, so with the weather and no racing, under the circumstances has not hindered us at all. At least the Australian Open tennis has been great viewing with no televised racing to watch.

Work continues despite the snow thanks to our all weather circuit
